PARTICULATE MATTER

Particulate matter (PM) refers to very small solid and liquid particles emitted during the combustion of fossil and biomass fuels.

These particulates can consist of a wide variety of substances and originate from sources such as industrial emissions, construction activities, and natural events like wildfires.

Of particular concern for human health are particulates measuring 10 micrometers or less in diameter, designated as PM10. Exposure to PM is linked to respiratory and cardiovascular issues, making the monitoring and reduction of particulate emissions essential for improving air quality and promoting sustainable development.
