Cradle-to-gate considers the entire life cycle of a product from raw material extraction (cradle) to when the product leaves through the factory gate (gate), meaning at the end of the production phase. The focus is on the stages of production and manufacturing and excludes subsequent phases such as the use and disposal of the product which are included in a cradle-to-grave perspective.
