GREENHOUSE GAS EMISSIONS (GHG)
There are a number of different greenhouse gases (GHG). Normally their emissions are measured in CO2 equivalent and derive mainly (but not only) from the burning of fossil fuels. The release of these gases into the atmosphere causes what is called the “greenhouse effect” and consequent heating of our planet.
The first step in order to be able to manage the impact of greenhouse gases is to quantify them, gaining an understanding of the hotspots and main impact drivers. They are quantified in a corporate environment by calculating the Corporate Carbon Footprint. A Product Carbon Footprint on the other hand allows us to measure the emissions associated with a specific product, service, process or event.
Measurement is the first step in order to be able to set reduction targets, a reduction plan and to integrate principles of ecodesign.
